The design features standard double bass components such as bridge, spike and tailpiece allowing easy customising, and giving a familiar feel to those who already own a double bass.
The bridge is adjustable for scale length, allowing for individual set-ups to suit you. Height adjusters are also avaliable to order.
The neck is comfortable and fast. This new fast neck is appreciated by players converting from electric bass or those with smaller hands.
The outstanding features of this design are its foldability and beauty. All the loveliest features of a double bass are kept in:- scroll, bridge, tailpiece, and the body is a modern design classic, complimenting the traditional.
The basses are finished by hand with natural shellac then wax polish. This can be built up over time with a bit of elbow grease to a lustrous shine. I recommend Briwax. Unlike sprayed on glossy finishes, this will not show small marks or scratches, can easily be restored at home, and does not feel grippy under the hand.
As standard, the Superlight is fitted with a Shadow bridge pick-up. Obviously any other pick-up system will fit due to the use of standard bridge, etc, and the bass can be purchased without a pickup for a reduced price. Any pickup can be fitted at the workshop - just ask!
There are loads of options available, for example: you can have precision bass or double bass style tuners; maple or sapele neck; 5 string (low B or high C); passive volume; tone controls & longer spike.
The unique registered design (patent pending) allows the bass to be folded in half for travelling, storage, etc. Detune the strings, remove one neck bolt, loosen the other, and the neck folds back over the body. The aluminium sides come off in one minute using the cast stainless steel wing nuts.
All parts are made from solid top quality woods and hand crafted in our workshop in Brighton, England.
Our wood basses weigh 7kg - an average acoustic double bass weighs 10kg.
